For some, arranging the honeymoon is more exciting than planning the actual wedding. Here are just a few things to consider when preparing for your special getaway.
SET A BUDGET
Many people consider the honeymoon a time to splurge on an amazing trip. If this is your choice, plan and save early.
COMPROMISE
Talk things out as a couple. One might want a beach vacay, while the other would prefer a European road trip. Discuss the pros and cons of each option. Or, do both and combine the ideas into one amazing getaway! (Make sure you can get the time off at work.)
PLAN TOGETHER
Leaving the honeymoon planning to the groom used to be a thing – it isn’t anymore. Plan together to come up with a trip that suits you both.
SNAG THE EXTRAS
Work with a travel agent to get perks you may not have thought of. You may want to call your hotel or resort and casually mention that you’ll be on your honeymoon and see if they provide upgrades. If you’re on a long flight, splurge on the upgraded seats!
EXPLORE
When you arrive at your destination, don’t get stuck at your resort; explore the area, do day trips and excursions, and visit restaurants, shops and beaches recommended by the locals. Why venture to a foreign country if you’re only going to see the airport and your hotel?
INSURE YOURSELF
Buy travel insurance that includes loss of luggage, medical coverage and trip cancellation. And those shiny new rings on your fingers? Get those covered, too. It also doesn’t hurt to pack half your stuff in your partner’s suitcase, and vice-versa, in case one gets lost. Your carry-on should contain a bathing suit, change of clothes and medications.
