Amy and Joseph Carver may have started as friends, but over time their friendship bloomed into something more. The pair started dating in June of 1999 and after years of holding hands, sharing secrets, dancing and laughing, Joseph surprised Amy at their annual vacation to Prince Edward Island.
During a game of washer toss (similar to horseshoes) Joey hinted to Amy that it was a competition with high stakes on the line. “It was a long battle, with colored washers flying through the air,” describes Amy. After she won, Joseph got down on one knee and proposed.
The pair tied the knot at a butterfly-themed wedding on October 22, 2011. The Carvers said their vows in front of 300 people at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Guysborough County, N.S.
Joseph’s favourite moment was the first dance. “Although [it] was in front of 300 people, [it] felt like a private moment with each other,” he says. They danced to Just By Being You (Halo and Wings) by Steel Magnolia, a song that is untraditional, but romantic nonetheless.
Their favourite wedding details range from the decorated hardwood trees in the hall to the candelabrum centerpiece at the head table.
