A Vibrant Hollywood-Bollywood Inspired Wedding in Toronto, Ontario

By Today's Bride on January 14, 2014

It was a colourful and vibrant day when Lina and Roger were married at the Toronto Hunt Club before 135 guests. Their wedding had a delicate balance of East Indian and British tradition.

Roger arrived in a classic British Black MG and Lina on a traditional Indian rickshaw driven by her dearest friend. Roger and his son were ushered by two young Jedis, dressed in semi-Indian kurtas holding lightsabers, as a tribute for his Academy Award-winning work on Star Wars. Lina, a celebrity event planner, wore a white traditional Indian sari.

As the couple walked into the reception area, they were ushered by storm troopers, the 501s, with the Star Wars anthem playing in the background. The entertainment line-up included a Serbian classical singer, Serge Nikol, jazz songstress Julie Michels who sang "At Last" by Etta James with pianist Igor Vrabac, sitarist Anwar Khurshid performed, as did Bollywood dance troupe, Divine Heritage Artistry and belly dancer Christina Lee.

“To kick off the dancing, we flew in the best, DJ Rekha, who spun everything from contemporary to Bollywood and Bhangra beats,” says Lina. “The dancing never ended.”

Lina and Roger created a tribute video to those who had passed. They also had a customized peacock cake (to match their invitations!) prepared by the couple’s friend.

They used Bliiss, a new photo-sharing app, which premiered at their wedding. “We had a lot of distant family and friends who couldn’t attend the wedding. The app allowed them to follow events during the day from wherever they were in the world in real time,” says Lina.
